BT Purchase Analyze It Impresses in Cecil B. DeMille
December 4, 2017
His stablemate may have captured the grade 1, but Analyze It put forward an impressive flourish on a strong day for trainer Chad Brown at Del Mar when he cruised home an easy winner of the $100,000 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes (G3T) Nov. 26.
Just an hour after Off Limits took the $300,000 Matriarch Stakes (G1T) in last-to-first fashion for Brown and owner Martin Schwartz, William Lawrence’s 2-year-old Analyze It soared impressively clear in the one-mile Cecil B. DeMille.
The Point of Entry colt showed good early speed under Jose Ortiz and posted an opening quarter in :23.40 before he was headed on the outside briefly by 33-1 shot King Eddie. By the next point of call, Analyze It was again in front, posting a half in :47.48 while remaining relaxed despite the pressure from his longshot rival.
Rounding the turn for home through three-quarters in 1:11.94, the bay runner received the cue to go, and he made short work of 10 rivals, as he widened his advantage through seven-eighths in 1:23.54 en route to a 4 1/4-length score.
“I wasn’t expecting to be in front. I thought I’d sit off the speed,” Ortiz said. “But he broke so well and he was going too easy, I just let him roll along. When we went to the three-eighths pole, I knew I had it won. I still had a lot of horse under me. I love riding horses like this. When you ask them to go, they go.”
The final time on a firm course was 1:35.05.
“Wow,” said Jose Hernandez, assistant to Brown. “He’s an amazing horse to work with and be around. I was a little worried early, when the horse came up outside and tried to put some pressure on him. But I know this horse and he can be on the pace or off it. As soon as they turned for home, he was gone.”
Pubilius Syrus rallied to claim second after getting steadied early, finishing 2 1/4 lengths ahead of 80-1 shot East Rand, with Choo Choo another head back in fourth. The order of finish was completed by Inscom, Extrordinary Jerry, Magic Musketier, Golden Dragon, Big Buzz, Armour Plate, and King Eddie.
Analyze It, the 1-2 choice on the merits of his one and only start—a 6 1/4-length maiden special weight victory over the Cecil B. DeMille distance Oct. 28 on the Belmont Park lawn—returned $3, $2.80, and $2.20. Pubilius Syrus paid $5.20 and $3.60, while East Rand returned $13.60 to show.
Bred in Kentucky by P. Headley Bell, Nancy Bell, and NATO out of the Consolidator mare Sweet Assay, Analyze It was a $190,000 purchase by Bradley Thoroughbreds from Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co. at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales 2017 March sale of 2-year-olds in training. He also went through the ring at the Keeneland September yearling sale, where he was consigned by Mill Ridge and purchased for $130,000 by Patrick Hoppel, agent. With his two wins in as many starts, he has earnings of $105,000.
