Ralph Nicks

The son of a trainer, Ralph Nicks is a second-generation horseman who began his career as a jockey before returning to work in his father’s stable. Nicks later worked as an assistant under Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott before starting his own stable in 2004. He got his first graded stakes win the next year when Cool Conductor won both the Arlington Handicap Grade 3) and Dixie Stakes Grade 2). Other notable horses trained by Nicks include El Caballo, Aubby K and Speechify.

Most recently, Nicks picked up his first Breeders’ Cup win when Caledonia Road won impressively in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar in 2017.
