The 2012-2013 Pinhook Venture is Off to a Fast Start

The one-day Fasig-Tipton July Sale kicked off the yearling sales season for 2012 and Bradley Thoroughbreds started with a bang! BT purchased four yearlings to start this years Pinhook Venture. Last year’s Venture purchased 18 yearlings and resold all of them as two-year-olds.

The first purchase was made on Hip 131, a filly by the young sire Old Fashioned out of Baby Betty for $75,000. Old Fashioned was undefeated as a two-year-old winning all three of his starts. His two-year-old’s should carry that speed. Below is a video of an allowance race where Old Fashioned blew away the field by 15 1/2 lengths.

One of the highlights of last year’s Venture included a colt by Hard Spun out of Lucky Lavender Gal. He was originally purchased for $200,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale by BT and resold for $870,000 to John Ferguson on behalf of Darley at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Two-Year-Old in training sale. The Tapit out of Muir Station colt has a strong resemblance to the Hard Spun colt in that both colts have strong female families. The Tapit colt’s dam, Muir Station (Street Cry {Ire}), is a 3/4-sister to MGSW & MGISP Shakis (Ire) (Machiavellian) and MSP Sahaat (Machiavellian). He has the pedigree of a future stallion and it is exciting to have him as a part of this year’s class. BT made the final bid of $280,000 to secure him.

The last official purchase at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale for Bradley Thoroughbreds came when Hip 332 went through the ring. She was secured for the Venture at $120,000. She is a beautiful filly by Pioneerof The Nile whose first crop are two-year-olds of 2012.

The last filly was purchased privately after she did not sell in the July Sale. She was Hip 177 a very “racey” and athletic filly by Pulpit. She was one the BT team and Eddie Woods had their eyes on all week. When she went through the ring, Bradley Thoroughbreds was the under bidder at $130,000. After she did not sell, BT was able to make a deal privately to round out four solid purchases for this year’s Venture so far.
