The older she gets, the better she gets. That appears to be the case for BT graduate BELLA MEDAGLIA (Medaglia d’Oro), who ran a huge race to register her first black-type victory in this afternoon’s one-mile Treasure Chest S. at Delta Downs in Louisiana. Already a graded stakes performer, BELLA MEDAGLIA was carried four or five wide into the first turn of the Treasure Chest as a group that included GSW Le Mi Geaux sped through :22 3/5 and :46 3/5 fractions. She continued to lose significant ground down the backstretch, racing widest as they lined up four abreast, but began to assert herself moving into the far turn and quickly pulled away. The classy Remit, sitting the garden trip, ranged up alongside in upper stretch and took a narrow lead, but BELLA MEDAGLIA showed her mettle, turning back that challenge to win going away by 1 3/4 lengths. BELLA MEDAGLIA, owned by Coteau Grove Farms, earned a 97 BRIS figure for the win. She has now been first or second in 10 of 16 and earned over $250,000. BELLA MEDAGLIA was purchased by BT for $100,000 as a KEESEP yearling and resold through Eddie Woods’s consignment for $200,000 as a KEEAPR juvenile. (Bella Medaglia chart 11-19-11)
