COMMANDING CURVE went off at 37-1 odds in the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby. His backers were highly rewarded when this colt came flying from the back of the pack to finish a strong second behind CALIFORNIA CHROME.
Bradley Thoroughbreds purchased Commanding Curve as a yearling in the Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale for $60,000. He was then pinhooked for $75,000 at the 2013 OBS April Sale, purchased by West Point Thoroughbreds.
He made Bradley Thoroughbreds and partners very proud on Saturday with an outstanding effort! Commanding Curve broke towards the back of the field sitting 18th and 17th around the first turn. Taking a lot of dirt and kickback this colt looked uncomfortable at the rear of the field. When the field hit the half mile marker he was sitting three wide and beginning to pick off competition. When the field turned for home Commanding Curve was forced eight wide but made up ground nicely, closing like a freight train! He finished 1 3/4 lengths behind Kentucky Derby winner CALIFORNIA CHROME.
