WATSDACHANCES (IRE) (m, 5, Diamond Green {Fr}) just missed her second straight graded tally when a fast-closing second in the G2 Dance Smartly S. at Woodbine on July 5th.
Sent postward at even-money fresh off her win in the G3 Gallorette H. on Preakness weekend, WATSDACHANCES broke alertly, but was taken back along the hedge and soon trailed the field as the leaders strolled through :25 and :49 2/5 splits. Still acting as caboose as they turned into the stretch, WATSDACHANCES, with Alan Garcia up, began to get rolling with a strong run between rivals.
At full flight in the final furlong, WATSDACHANCES dove to the rail and surged past the Canadian champion and ’13 Dance Smartly winner Solid Appeal, but the wire came too soon and she fell a head short of another Canadian champion in Strut the Course.
The final time for the about-nine-furlong event was a very fast 1:45 2/5. Internal fractions after the half weren’t available due to a clocker malfunction, but WATSDACHANCES final furlong was hand-timed in approximately :11 flat.
