Bradley Thoroughbreds’ Pinhook Venture graduate MOANIN (2012 c. by HENNY HUGHES out of GIGGLY), who just broke his maiden on May 16 at Kyoto Racecourse, returned to the track in Tokyo on May 31. There, the colt topped a 16 horse field in a mile plate race for 3-year-olds.
Breaking from the seventh spot, jockey Yuga Kawada settled MOANIN in third, running gamely near the leaders and staying there until they reach the 1/4 Pole. As the field turned for home, the colt made his bid, steadily pulling away. Down the stretch, he held off another U.S.-bred, LA TERRASSE, finally winning by 1 1/4 lengths on a fast dirt track.
MOANIN was purchased by the Bradley Thoroughbreds’ Pinhook Venture for $90,000 as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York Bred Yearling Sale and sold for $335,000 as a Two-Year-Old in Training at OBS in March 2014 from the Eddie Woods’ Consignment. He is currently owned by Yukio Baba and trained by Sei Ishizaka.
