Freshman sire LATENT HEAT is off to a fast start at stud this season as a top 5 sire in the nation by winners. The Grade I-winning son of Maria’s Mon got his first winner from his very first runner when the filly Starship Flash swung out and rallied to victory in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Calder June 11. At Delaware June 27, another firster, True Feelings, was backed at 5-2 odds in her unveiling and came through for her supporters, powering to a 3 3/4-length decision in a five-furlong maiden special weight. Then on June 30 at Churchill Downs, the colt Dogwoods Barto became LATENT HEAT’s third debut winner. The 7-5 chance aired by 2 1/2 lengths in a five-furlong maiden for owner/breeder Dogwood Farm and Jane Parrott.
A winner of six of his 12 starts, LATENT HEAT captured the GI Malibu S. at three and the GII San Carlos H. at four for his breeder, Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms. Upon retirement, Bradley Thoroughbred Brokerage brokered the deal to stand the blue-blooded horse at Peter O’Callaghan’s Woods Edge Farm near Lexington, Kentucky. Latent Heat bred 160 mares in his first year at stud
