DAYATTHESPA – Four length win

The 2-year-old filly DAYATTHESPA, purchased by Bradley Thoroughbreds for a new New York-bred racing venture, opened her account with an auspicious four-length win over the Saratoga lawn today. A daughter of City Zip from the family of Japanesechampion and young sire Hat Trick (Jpn), DAYATTHESPA was fully expected to run a big one at first asking, going postward at 5-2 odds for the Chad Brown barn. She was part of a four- or five-horse crush vying for the early lead, but took back like a pro and patiently waited to be given her cue. Angled to the three path for running room by Ramon Dominguez as they turned into the lane, DAYATTHESPA surged to the front and opened up a four-length lead in the blink of an eye, and was in hand late while maintaining that margin to the wire. The final time for the 5 1/2-furlong race was a snappy 1:03 flat (87 BRIS). DAYATTHESSPA, a $50,000 FTNAUG yearling, is co-owned by Bradley Thoroughbreds, Steve Laymon, John Eaton and Kris Kruid.(Dayatthespa Chart 8-4-11)
