Reverting back the front-running ways that carried him to a five-length victory in his debut, BTB Venture graduate BACKDOOR KENNY (Half Ours) laid waste to a salty field in the $85,000 Mountaineer Juvenile S. today. He became the first stakes winner for his young sire in the process. BACKDOOR KENNY kicked off his career with a sharp, gate-to-wire effort facing maiden special weight company at Arlington Park May 7. He followed that with a third-place effort in the $75,000 Prairie Gold S. in his first try on conventional dirt July 16–when he came from off the pace–and was making his third start in as many states in the Mountaineer Juvenile. Partnered with California import Joe Talamo, BACKDOOR KENNY was put right on the lead and blistered through :21 1/5 and :44 flat splits. Despite the wicked pace, the chestnut kept increasing his lead in the stretch and was 5 1/4 lengths clear when he flashed under the wire. The final time for the six-furlong race was 1:10 4/5 (92 BRIS). The colt is owned by Doubledown Stables and James DiVito. He was acquired by Bradley Thoroughbreds for $25,000 as an FTKUL yearling and resold to DiVito for $85,000 at OBSMAR. (Backdoor Kenny Chart 8-6-11)
