BT Pinhook Graduates Had a Big Weekend

REI OF HOPE

The 2yo colt REI was one of BT’s most successful pinhooks of 2012, and looked worth every cent of the $490,000 price he elicited at OBS March when he broke his maiden in his unveiling at Woodbine on Sunday. Word was out on the handsome son of Leroidesanimaux (Brz), who went postward as the 8-5 choice despite debuting at the tough seven-furlong distance. REI was away a bit slowly from the inside draw, but made up incremental ground up the backstretch. Moving to within striking distance on the turn, he angled into the two path in upper stretch and with powerful strides drove clear to a one-length success.

BT purchased REI for $70,000 at the 2011 FTKOCT sale and resold him through Eddie Woods’s draft for $490,000 at OBS March. Deuce Greathouse purchased him on behalf of Pike Place Racing and Robert Masterson. Mark Casse trains REI. Congratulations to his connections!

PINK LOLLIPOPS WINS AGAIN

Arnold Zetcher’s 4yo filly PINK LOLLIPOPS, a BT graduate, continues to be a rock-solid performer on the tough Southern California circuit. The Bob Baffert-trained filly won for the third time Saturday in a six-furlong optional claimer at Santa Anita, dueling through a crisp half in :44 3/5 before asserting in the lane to win by a length. A close-up third to subsequent Grade I winner Teddy’s Promise in last year’s Time to Love S. at Betfair Hollywood Park, PINK LOLLIPOPS has three wins from nine starts and earnings of $130,000. BT acquired PINK LOLLIPOPS privately as a yearling and sold her for $110,000 at the 2010 OBS April Sale.
